Meeting of Minister Delegate for Romanians Abroad, Cristian David, with Croatia’s Ambassador Andrea Gustović Ercegovac

The Minister Delegate for Romanians Abroad, Cristian David, had on 18 September 2013 a meeting with the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, Andrea Gustović Ercegovac.

The Romanian official underscored the interest of the Romanian party in expanding the bilateral relations between the two states and expressed satisfaction over recognition by the Republic of Croatia of the national minority status of the Romanians and Istro-Romanians who had settled in her country.

Croatia’s Ambassador Andrea Gustović Ercegovac showed opening concerning recognition of the Istro-Romanian minority as an essential factor in consolidating the bilateral relations between the two states.

The Croatian party also specified that the two states now have a lot in common, both being members of the European Union, and made a point of expressing appreciation of the support Romania has given Croatia in its drive to join the EU.

Further on, the Minister Delegate for Romanians Abroad presented his mission in the Executive, as well as the guidelines of his mandate. Cristian David therefore mentioned his coordination role in respect to the matter of Romanians abroad, which comprises areas within the purview of several ministries.

The Ambassador of Croatia asked the Romanian official for support in the management of the relationship with Croatian nationals living abroad.

Minister Delegate Cristian David showed availability in this respect. At the same time, the official extended an invitation for the director of the Department for Croatians Abroad to visit Romania and have a closer dialogue on managing the relationship with communities living abroad.
